Chambeyronia macrocarpa

A relative of the nikau from New Caledonia, medium sized with long arching fronds of thick shiny texture and a green trunk with regular rings, greying with age. Each new frond emerges from the centre of the crown a bright red colour, slowly turning green over a period of about two weeks. A clump in good growing conditions would create a great feature. Four plants with 3m trunks, the largest available in New Zealand, $8,000 each.
